Protect Yourself from Insects
Here come the bugs! Not only are the mosquitoes making an appearance, but
May is prime tick season. Believe me, it’s important to protect
yourself from those ticks. But the commercial repellants for these pests are
extremely toxic to your body. I want to share 2 great recipes using
essential oils to repel these pests. Use liberally and repeat every hour
that you’re outside.
Additionally, if you’re going to hike or work outside, you want to
dress properly during tick season. Wear light clothing, so you can see ticks
if they try to hitch a ride. Tuck your pants into your (white) socks. What a
fashion statement! 😉 I saw one post in my Facebook hiking group where
someone suggested using duck tape around the top of your socks with the
sticky side out, to hopefully stop a tick’s progress. I can’t
personally vouch for this one, but it sounds interesting enough that I plan
to try it next weekend when I go camping. Keep in mind that the nymph
(young) ticks are extremely small. You can use a sticky lint roller to roll
your pants or even your skin when you come inside. Change out of your
clothes and do a check of your body to be sure you didn’t miss any.
Unfortunately, it seems like this year is going to be especially bad for ticks. A few people in my camping groups have commented about finding multiple ticks on themselves and their pets. Do a check of your pets any time they have been outside, as they can bring them in the house.
Not to be doom and gloom, but I want you to be outside responsibly. It’s important to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine! Just do it in the proper fashion getup and smelling like lovely essential oils 😊
